School Leadership for Changing Times for CBSE School Principals
IIM Amritsar successfully conducted a 4-day MDP called “School Leadership for Changing Times” for Principals and Vice Principals of Schools affiliated to CBSE. The program was conducted from 15th-18th January 2020 at Hotel Lemon Tree, Amritsar. The program had a diverse representation of school Principals from states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
The focus of the training program was on the varied issues that the Principals and the teachers grapple with in their day-to-day functioning of their schools. By establishing and interpreting the nature and scope of educational change, this program attempted to make a significant contribution in meeting various challenges that each one of them face in their schools. The training was highly practical, experiential, structured and organized with a lot of experience sharing sessions, hands-on practice exercises and collaborative learning environment.
The meticulous planning and constant encouragement from the Director were the reasons solely responsible for the success of this program. The faculty were constantly supported and mentored by Director, IIM Amritsar and the Program Coordinator, Prof. Vartika.
The focus of the 4 day program was the following-
Day 1-Stakeholders in a Changing Educational Landscape
Day 2-Pedagogical Leadership with a focus on Outcome-based education
Day 3-Defining and Managing the Cultural DNA of the school
Day 4-Leading and Managing Change at the institutional level
The 4-day was filled with many knowledge sharing sessions, mutual learning and participatory exercises. The participants went back to their organizations with a lot of enthusiasm to apply some of the learnings from the program as meaningful interventions to make effective teaching learning experience. The participants felt that the sessions were so important and immersive that many continuous and focused 3-4 day programs can be planned for the future for each of the standalone sessions. This MDP at IIM Amritsar was a great experience for all the faculty who facilitated sessions during this program.
