Leadership Development Program for IOCL Officers
IIM Amritsar proudly partners with the Indian Oil Institute of Petroleum Management (IiPM), which is the apex Learning & Development Center of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for delivering Six-day long Leadership Development Program (LDP) for Middle-level managers of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
IiPM has been delivering a customised Leadership program for its officers through premier B-Schools as the knowledge partners. IIM Amritsar is proud to become one of IiPM's new knowledge partners.
The overarching theme of this Six-Day extended Leadership Development Program (LDP) was "Leading in the Next Normal." The businesses today are undergoing tectonic shifts due to constant disruptions. The organizations not only need to adapt to the changing needs of the customer but also transform it to sustain competitive advantage in the rapidly changing environment
This comprehensive training program was developed after a thorough understanding of the "Saksham- Leadership Competency Framework of Indian Oil Corporation," which comprises of 8 key Leadership Competencies identified for leading the organization's successful operations. The program had a series of power-packed sessions facilitated by experienced resource persons on all the 8 Leadership competencies, with a particular emphasis on Business Result Leadership, Talent Leadership, Change Leadership, Operational Leadership, and Content Leadership competencies.
The interactive sessions were an excellent platform for participants to share their unique experiences and learn newer skills through case-studies, experiential games, and group tasks to lead their teams to not only survive but thrive during tough economic times.
In the wake of global pandemic COVID-19, the program was offered virtually via VC (video-conferencing) mode from 14-19th Dec'20 for all the select officers of IOCL.
Testimonials
Mr. Najaf Raza
Deputy GM (PJ-CGD)
The Six days leadership development program with IIM Amritsar has given an insight about a leadership role in which a leader should not only be just giving orders to subordinates/teams and letting them do their work but should know how to communicate with clients/stakeholders by adopting best practices from inside and outside the company.
I really enjoyed interacting with a small group in breakout rooms during the sessions as if we do in our day to day working for strategic decisions with the core team. It has given a real-life feeling in the new normal. I also enjoyed the views and comments of other participants during the Program which has given altogether a different thought process to analyze any situation. The design of the Program was very thoughtful and engaging.
Mr. Dattatray Bapurao Walekar
Chief Tech Services Manager (PDEC)
The open minded and erudite approach of the faculty This program has widened and re-directed our thinking horizon to improve upon leadership skills for our own enrichment and subsequently benefiting IOCL as a whole. Key takeaways from the program have been:
(1) Remain proactive and lead the team: This must be applied to all over official and as well as personal key assignments.
(2) "You" and "We" approach: Complementing the Subordinates with " You" and Advising for Correction with " We". This approach will really help to lead the team the effective manner.
(3) Decision making under Uncertainty: The simultaneous traditional and innovative approach for taking apt decisions while mindful of the possible risks involved in them

The topic covered in the program is applicable in or other occasions/situations in the professional life of all of us. Understanding on such will help the person to handle it very effectively and efficiently.
Being involved in licensing of technologies, I find the data-driven decision making, long term investment & capital decision making, the art of persuasion and negotiation, critical thinking & innovation are very much applicable for my activities. The same shall be utilised. Workroom concept was really good and it gave more clarity on the topic of discussion. Such activity may be considered in all the sessions.
